Women's Volleyball Season Ends

Unfortunately, the women's volleyball season has come to an end as the NCAA released the 64-team bracket today and Pepperdine wasn't in it. The third-place Waves had an RPI of 72, which unfortunately wasn't good enough this year. The most surprising thing to happen was that the West Coast Conference went from five bids last year to just one this year (league champion Saint Mary's). The second-place team, San Diego, was also left out with an RPI of 60.

Former Pepperdine baseball player and long-time professional coach Steve Smith has joined the Cleveland Indians staff for 2010, the Indians' website reports. Smith was last on the 2008 world champion Phillies squad.

Former Pepperdine baseball standout Chase d'Arnaud, now in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, is featured on the Pirates' website for his strong play in the Arizona Fall League.

You may have seen over the weekend, either on our website or elsewhere, that former baseball coach John Scolinos passed away at the age of 91. Here are a few articles that popped up from MLB.com, the San Bernardino Sun and the Los Angeles Times.

Randy Wolf on TV, Radio Tonight

Former Pepperdine ace and current L.A. Dodger Randy Wolf will be on a few TV and radio spots tonight to promote a golf tournament that benefited the local chapter of the ALS Association. He is expected to be on ESPN 710 AM radio at 6 p.m., with features on the Channel 2 6 p.m. newscast and Channel 9 news around 10:45 p.m.

Baseball America Note

Baseball America put out a notebook yesterday with some tidbits about college baseball teams around the country. There's a paragraph in there about Pepperdine's pitching staff for 2010.

Jeff Gove Video Highlights
