MacDonell, Snyder Starring for USA Water Polo

Numerous Waves, including recent grads JP MacDonell and Clayton Snyder, helped the USA men's water polo national team qualify for the FINA World Cup and FINA World League Super Final over the weekend. In a 12-4 victory over Brazil, MacDonell scored three goals and Snyder and Jesse Smith had one each. Merrill Moses is one of the USA's goalies, and the team is coached by Terry Schroeder.

MacDonell, Moses Aid US Effort vs. Canada

Former Pepperdine water polo All-Americans JP MacDonell and Merrill Moses had big games on Wednesday for the USA National Team, although the result was a 6-5 loss to Canada in the Volvo Cup in Hungary. MacDonell scored two goals and Moses made six saves. Here is the USA Water Polo press release.

JP MacDonell Scores Two Goals vs. Germany

Pepperdine water polo All-American JP MacDonell is with the USA National Team in Europe right now. In preparation for the Volvo Cup in Hungary, the U.S. took on Germany in an exhibition and MacDonell scored two goals, according to the USA Water Polo press release.

2009 Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

The Pepperdine University Department of Athletics announced today that seven more of its all-time greats -- Doug Christie, Geoffrey Clark, Bob Ctvrtlik, Katherine Hull, Kelly Jones, John Rettberg and Rod Wilde -- will be inducted into its Hall of Fame this fall. The ceremony will be held on Sunday, October 25, at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills, Calif. A reception will be held at 5 p.m., with dinner and the awards presentation at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50 per plate and can be purchased by contacting Heather Collart at 310-506-6483 or heather.collart@pepperdine.edu. Pepperdine Alumni Play For Bronze at World Championships

The USA Men's Senior National Team will play for a Bronze Medal at the 2009 FINA World Championships after falling to Spain 7-6 in the semi-final round. Follow Pepperdine Alumni Jesse Smith and Merrill Moses at the World Championships.

USA Men's Water Polo in World Quarterfinals

The USA Men's Senior National Team's Match vs Germany in the quarterfinals of the FINA World Championships has been set for 3:20pm, Italy time, on Tuesday, July 28.

USA Men Defeat Romania 7-5, Win Group Play

The USA Men's Senior National Water PoloTeam advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Romania 7-5, earlier today at the FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy. Pepperdine alumni Jesse Smith recorded one goal, while Merrill Moses was responsible for seven saves in the cage.

MacDonell on the World University Games and Team USA: "We lost to Australia in the quarterfinals, taking us out of the medal rounds. Team USA came here to place the best that we can. Beating Italy gave us the opportunity to play for 5th place against either Russia or Hungary.  We would like to play Hungary for 5th place. We match up well against Hungary. As the tournament is coming to an end there is more free time between games. We have a day off before the 5th place game. This gives me a chance to see other U.S. teams compete."

Team USA Downs Italy, 11-8

The USA men's water polo team will play for fifth place on Sunday after defeating Italy, 11-8, earlier today at the World University Games. J.P. MacDonell scored two goals for the United States.
